Під час Великого Посту, в церкві і вдома, читається Покаянна Молитва Святого Єфрема: Господи і Владико життя мого! Духа лінивства, недбайливости, властолюб’я й пустомовства віджени від мене (доземний поклін). Духа чистоти, покори, терпеливости й любови даруй мені, слузі Твоєму (доземний поклін). Так, Господи, Царю! Дай мені бачити гріхи мої і не осуджувати брата мого, бо ти благословенний на віки вічні. Амінь (доземний поклін).

During the Great Lent, in church and at home, read the Repentance Prayer of Saint Ephraim: O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk. But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Thy servant. Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou, unto ages of ages. Amen.

Вже стало певною традицією, ми християни молимося за наших померлих родичів, жертвуємо за них наші молитви, просимо за них Служби Божі. У нашій церкві офіційними днями молитви за померлих, чи, як ми їх називаємо, «задушними днями» чи «поминальними» є: Задушні суботи – перед неділею М’ясопусною, друга, третя і четверта субота Великого Посту та субота перед Зеленими Святами. Крім того Церква має прадавній звичай поминати померлих у 9-ий і 40-ий день після смерті та у річницю смерті. СОРОКОУСТИ – це Служба в час Великого посту, підчас якої читають поминальні молитви за всіх померлих. Ви можите написати список імен померлих і передати до Священика.

It has become a particular tradition; we Christians pray for our deceased relatives, sacrifice for them with our prayers, asking for liturgies for them. In our church, the official day of prayer for the dead, or as we call them, "commemoration days" or "memorial" is: commemoration Saturday - Sunday before Meatfare, second, third and fourth Saturday of Great Lent and the Saturday before Pentecost. In addition the Church has ancient tradition of commemorating the dead in the 9th and 40th day after death and the anniversary of death. SOROKOUSTY — Special Memorial Services for deceased during Lent. Please fill out and send your commemoration list to Father Petro or drop off at the center's office.

"Послання ап. Павла до Євреїв 6, 13-20"
"Браття, Бог, коли давав Авраамові обітницю, не маючи поклястися ніким вищим, поклявся Самим Собою, кажучи: Поблагословлю тебе щедро і розмножу тебе вельми. І він, завдяки довгій терпеливості, осягнув обітницю. Люди клянуться більшим від себе, і всякі їхні суперечки кінчаються клятвою на ствердження. Тому й Бог, бажаючи дати спадкоємцям обітниці як найсильніший доказ, що рішення Його волі незмінне, вжив клятви, щоб двома незмінними речами, в яких неможливо, щоб Бог казав неправду, ми мали сильну потіху, ми, що прибігли прийняти призначену нам надію. В Ньому маємо неначе якір душі, безпечний та міцний, що входить аж до середини за завісу, куди ввійшов за нас як предтеча Ісус, ставши Архиєреєм повіки, по чину Мелхиседека."

Lesson from the Epistle of Saint Paul to the Hebrews – c. 6, v. 13–20
Brethren, when God made a promise to Abraham, he swore by himself, for there was no one greater, by whom he could swear, and said: “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” Thus, Abraham, after waiting patiently, obtained the promise.
Men swear by one greater than themselves, and their oath is a final confirmation in all their disputes. So, God, wishing to show to the heirs of his promise the unchange­able nature of his decision, pledged himself by an oath. God never meant to deceive us with these two assurances, his promise and his oath, which are irrevocable.
He wanted to give a powerful encouragement to those, who had fled for refuge under his shelter. He wanted us to seize upon the hope, set before us as a sure and firm anchor of the soul. It is a hope, which penetrates the inner sanctuary of the temple behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, after he has become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

"В той час один чоловік прийшов до Ісуса і, кланяючись Йому, сказав: Учителю, я привів до Тебе мого сина, що має німого духа. І де коли-небудь схопить його, кидає його, і піну точить, і скрегоче зубами своїми, і ціпеніє. Я сказав ученикам Твоїм, щоб вигнали його, і не змогли. Він же, відповідаючи, сказав йому: О, роде невірний, доки буду з вами, доки терпітиму вас? Приведіть його до Мене. І привели. А як побачив Ісуса, нараз дух стряс ним; і він, упавши на землю, валявся і точив піну. І запитав отця його: Скільки це літ, відколи це йому сталося? А той сказав: 3 дитинства. І багато разів кинув його в огонь і в води, щоб його погубити. Але, коли що можеш, поможи нам, змилосердившись над нами. А Ісус сказав йому: Якщо можеш? Усе можливе віруючому. І зараз скликнувши, батько хлоп'яти зі сльозами сказав: Вірую, Господи, поможи моєму невірству! Побачивши ж Ісус, що збігається народ, заборонив духові нечистому, кажучи йому: Духу німий і глухий, кажу тобі: Вийди з нього і не входь більше в нього! І, закричавши та сильно ним стрясши, вийшов з нього. І став наче мертвий, так що багато говорило, що він помер. А Ісус, взявши його за руку, підняв, і він встав. І коли ввійшов в дім, то ученики спитали Ісуса на самоті: Чому ми не змогли вигнати його? І сказав їм: Цей рід нічим не може вийти, як тільки молитвою і постом. І вийшовши звідти, ішли через Галилею; і Він не хотів, щоб хто знав. Бо навчав Своїх учнів і говорив їм, що Син Людський виданий буде в руки людям, і вб'ють Його, і, вбитий, Він на третій день воскресне."

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Saint Mark:
At that time, a man came to Jesus, kneeling down and saying unto him, "Teacher, I have brought to you my son possessed by a mute spirit. Wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive it out, but they were unable to do so." He said to them in reply, "O faithless generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I endure you? Bring him to me." They brought the boy to him. And when he saw him, the spirit immediately threw the boy into convulsions. As he fell to the ground, he began to roll around and foam at the mouth. Then he questioned his father, "How long has this been happening to him?" He replied, "Since childhood. It has often thrown him into fire and into water to kill him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us." Jesus said to him, " 'If you can!' Everything is possible to one who has faith." Then the boy's father cried out, "I do believe, help my unbelief!" Jesus, on seeing a crowd rapidly gathering, rebuked the unclean spirit and said to it, "Mute and deaf spirit, I command you: come out of him and never enter him again!" Shouting and throwing the boy into convulsions, it came out. He became like a corpse, which caused many to say, "He is dead!" But Jesus took him by the hand, raised him, and he stood up. When he entered the house, his disciples asked him in private, "Why could we not drive it out?" He said to them, "This kind can only come out through prayer. "They left from there and began a journey through Galilee, but he did not wish anyone to know about it. He was teaching his disciples and telling them, "The Son of Man is to be handed over to men and they will kill him, and three days after his death he will rise."
