Під час Великого Посту, в церкві і вдома, читається Покаянна Молитва Святого Єфрема: Господи і Владико життя мого! Духа лінивства, недбайливости, властолюб’я й пустомовства віджени від мене (доземний поклін). Духа чистоти, покори, терпеливости й любови даруй мені, слузі Твоєму (доземний поклін). Так, Господи, Царю! Дай мені бачити гріхи мої і не осуджувати брата мого, бо ти благословенний на віки вічні. Амінь (доземний поклін).

During the Great Lent, in church and at home, read the Repentance Prayer of Saint Ephraim: O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk. But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Thy servant. Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou, unto ages of ages. Amen.

Вже стало певною традицією, ми християни молимося за наших померлих родичів, жертвуємо за них наші молитви, просимо за них Служби Божі. У нашій церкві офіційними днями молитви за померлих, чи, як ми їх називаємо, «задушними днями» чи «поминальними» є: Задушні суботи – перед неділею М’ясопусною, друга, третя і четверта субота Великого Посту та субота перед Зеленими Святами. Крім того Церква має прадавній звичай поминати померлих у 9-ий і 40-ий день після смерті та у річницю смерті. СОРОКОУСТИ – це Служба в час Великого посту, підчас якої читають поминальні молитви за всіх померлих. Ви можите написати список імен померлих і передати до Священика.

It has become a particular tradition; we Christians pray for our deceased relatives, sacrifice for them with our prayers, asking for liturgies for them. In our church, the official day of prayer for the dead, or as we call them, "commemoration days" or "memorial" is: commemoration Saturday - Sunday before Meatfare, second, third and fourth Saturday of Great Lent and the Saturday before Pentecost. In addition the Church has ancient tradition of commemorating the dead in the 9th and 40th day after death and the anniversary of death. SOROKOUSTY — Special Memorial Services for deceased during Lent. Please fill out and send your commemoration list to Father Petro or drop off at the center's office.

"Браття, тепер ближче нас спасіння, ніж тоді, як ми увірували. Ніч проминула, день наблизився. Відкиньмо, отже, вчинки темряви і одягнімся у зброю світла. Як день, поводьмося чесно: не в ненажерстві та пияцтві, не в перелюбі та розпусті, не у сварні та заздрощах; але вдягніться у Господа Ісуса Христа і не дбайте про тіло в похотях. Слабкого в вірі приймайте, не вступаючи з ним у суперечки. Один вірить, що можна все їсте, а слабкий хай їсть городину Хто їсть, хай не гордує тим, що не їсть; а хто не їсть, хай не судить того, що їсть, бо Бог його прийняв. Ти хто, що судиш чужого слугу? Своєму господеві стоїть він або падає; але він стоятиме, бо Господь може підтримати його."

A READING FROM THE 1st LETTER OF SAINT PAUL, THE APOSTLE, TO ROMANS:
Brethren, now our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed; the night is advanced, the day is at hand. Let us then throw off the works of darkness (and) put on the armor of light; let us conduct ourselves properly as in the day, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in promiscuity and licentiousness, not in rivalry and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh. Welcome anyone who is weak in faith, but not for disputes over opinions. One person believes that one may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. The one who eats must not despise the one who abstains, and the one who abstains must not pass judgment on the one who eats; for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on someone else's servant? Before his own master he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. (1 Rom. 13, 11-14,4)

"Сказав Господь: Якщо відпускаєте людям прогрішення їх, відпустить і вам Отець ваш Небесний. А якщо не відпускаєте людям прогрішень їх, ні Отець ваш не відпустить вам прогрішень ваших. Коли ж постите, не будьте сумні, як лицеміри, бо вони похмурюють свої лиця, щоб показатися людям, що постять. Істинно кажу вам, що вони приймають свою нагороду. А ти, коли постиш, помаж свою голову і лице своє умий, щоб ти, постячи, не явився людям, а Отцю твоєму, що в тайні. І Отець твій, що видить у тайні, воздасть тобі явно. Не скривайте собі скарбів на землі, де черв і тля тлить і де злодії підкопуються і крадуть. А скривайте собі скарб на небі, де ні черв, ні тля не тлить, і де злодії не підкопуються, ні не крадуть. Бо де є скарб ваш, там буде і серце ваше."

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Saint Matthew: The Lord said, if you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions. "When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you. "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. (Mt. 6,14-21)
