Під час Великого Посту, в церкві і вдома, читається Покаянна Молитва Святого Єфрема: Господи і Владико життя мого! Духа лінивства, недбайливости, властолюб’я й пустомовства віджени від мене (доземний поклін). Духа чистоти, покори, терпеливости й любови даруй мені, слузі Твоєму (доземний поклін). Так, Господи, Царю! Дай мені бачити гріхи мої і не осуджувати брата мого, бо ти благословенний на віки вічні. Амінь (доземний поклін).

During the Great Lent, in church and at home, read the Repentance Prayer of Saint Ephraim: O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk. But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Thy servant. Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou, unto ages of ages. Amen.

Вже стало певною традицією, ми християни молимося за наших померлих родичів, жертвуємо за них наші молитви, просимо за них Служби Божі. У нашій церкві офіційними днями молитви за померлих, чи, як ми їх називаємо, «задушними днями» чи «поминальними» є: Задушні суботи – перед неділею М’ясопусною, друга, третя і четверта субота Великого Посту та субота перед Зеленими Святами. Крім того Церква має прадавній звичай поминати померлих у 9-ий і 40-ий день після смерті та у річницю смерті. СОРОКОУСТИ – це Служба в час Великого посту, підчас якої читають поминальні молитви за всіх померлих. Ви можите написати список імен померлих і передати до Священика.

It has become a particular tradition; we Christians pray for our deceased relatives, sacrifice for them with our prayers, asking for liturgies for them. In our church, the official day of prayer for the dead, or as we call them, "commemoration days" or "memorial" is: commemoration Saturday - Sunday before Meatfare, second, third and fourth Saturday of Great Lent and the Saturday before Pentecost. In addition the Church has ancient tradition of commemorating the dead in the 9th and 40th day after death and the anniversary of death. SOROKOUSTY — Special Memorial Services for deceased during Lent. Please fill out and send your commemoration list to Father Petro or drop off at the center's office.

Дивно, що 50-доларова купюра нам здається такою великою, коли ми її залишаємо в церкві, і такою малою - коли залишаємо її в магазині. Дивно, що година, проведена за читанням молитов, поминаючи Бога, нам здається такою довгою, а година, проведена біля телевізора, - такою короткою. Дивно, що, звершуючи молитву, ми ледь збираємося з думками, тоді як у розмові з приятелем це для нас не складає ніяких труднощів. Дивно, що ми так радіємо, коли оголошують додатковий час футбольного матчу, і скаржимося, коли проповідь затягується довше звичайного. Дивно, що нам так важко змусити себе прочитати хоча б одну главу Біблії, і так легко ми читаємо сто сторінок роману, що сподобався. Дивно, що в концертному залі всі люди прагнуть у перші ряди, а в церкві - в останні. Дивно, що нам так важко вивчити одну молитву, і ми так легко запам'ятовуємо і переказуємо чутки. Дивно, що ми так легко віримо в написане в газетах, і нам так важко повністю увірувати в написане в Слові Божому. Дивно, що кожен з нас бажає увійти в Рай і не хоче обтяжувати себе стараннями для його набуття. Дивно, що майже кожен з нас одночасно є і суддею, і адвокатом: коли йдеться про чужі гріхи, ти - суддя, а коли про власні, то ти — адвокат. Дивно, що, прочитавши ці рядки, майже кожен з нас уважатиме їх актуальними для інших, але ніяк не до самого себе!!!

CHRIST IS RISEN!

Dearly Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus,
We greet you on "this chosen and holy Day" (Canticle VIII Easter Kanon) of the Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Today our Holy Church joyfully heralds the unsurpassed event that by His death Christ conquered death and by having risen, "Hades is led captive, Adam is recalled from the dead, the curse is made void, Eve is set free,Death is slain, and we have been endowed with life." (Bohorodychnyj from Paschal Matins). She calls all to the Lord’s feast to taste the fruits of grace—"the calf is fatted; let no one go away hungry. Enjoy ye all the feast of faith; Receive ye all the riches of loving-kindness. Let no one weep for his iniquities, for pardon hath shone forth from the grave. Let no one fear death, for the Savior’s death hath set us free." (Catechetical Address of St. John Chrysostom). Christ’s resurrection tore asunder the shackles of sin which chained us to the earth and gave our soul spiritual wings to fly to the heavens.
Spring has come to our soul which, resuscitated by God’s Grace and sustained by the Saviour’s Holy Body and Holy Blood, begins the process of ripening in order to return to the Creator an abundant harvest of good deeds of mercy towards our neighbor—"inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." (Mt.25:40) A new life has begun in which we are called to make peace with one another. " Brethren! And because of the Resurrection let us forgive all things to those who hate us", (Paschal stykhyra in Tone 5) and together become, "...a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light." (IРeter2:9) Pascha—is a happy celebration of Christian love to God.May His love and Blessings always be with you and your families, and Love and Hope find a place in your heart. May the joy of Pascha bring you peace and contentment in your lives. "Shine, shine, O New Jerusalem for the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee."

І мир Божий, що перевищає всякий ум, нехай збереже серця ваші і розуміння ваші у Христі Ісусі. А наостанку, брати мої, все, що є істинне, що чесне, що праведне, що пречисте, що любе, що доброхвальне, коли яка чеснота, коли яка похвала, це роздумуйте. Чого і навчилися, і прийняли, і почули, і виділи в мені, те творіть, і Бог миру буде з вами."

Lesson from the Epistle of Saint Paul to the Philippians – c. 4, v. 4 – 7
Brethren, farewell. May the Lord be with you always. Let all men see your gentleness. The Lord is coming. Do not worry about anything. But make all your petitions known to God through prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving.
Then, the peace of God, which transcends all human understanding, will keep your minds and your thoughts in Jesus Christ.
Now, brethren, let your minds dwell on what is true, noble, righteous, pure, amiable, kindly, virtuous, and praiseworthy. Practice what you have learned, received, and heard from me, or seen me do. May the God of peace be with you.

"Перед шістьма днями до Пасхи прийшов Ісус у Витанію, де був Лазар умерлий, що його воскресив з мертвих. Справили Йому там вечерю, і Марта служила, і Лазар був один з тих, що возлежали з Ним. Марія ж, узявши літру мира нардового, чистого, дорогоцінного, помазала ноги Ісусові й обтерла своїм волоссям ноги Його. Храмина ж наповнилася запахом масти пахучої. Сказав же тоді один з Його учнів, Юда Іскаріотський, що хотів Його видати: Чому мира цього не було продано за триста динаріїв і не роздано бідним? Сказав же він це не тому, що журився вбогими, але тому, що був злодій і мав калитку і носив те, що вкидали. Сказав же Ісус: Лишіть її, вона зберегла це миро на день Мого похорону. Бо бідних завжди маєте з собою, а Мене не завжди маєте. І довідалося багато народу з юдеїв, що Він там, прийшли не тільки ради Ісуса, але щоб і Лазаря побачити, що його воскресив з мертвих. Архиєреї ж врадили, щоб і Лазаря вбити, бо многі його ради відходили від юдеїв й вірували в Ісуса. А на завтрашній день багато народу, що прийшли на празник, почувши, що Ісус іде в Єрусалим, прийняли пальмове віття і вийшли Йому назустріч, і кликали, кажучи: Осанна, благословен хто йде в ім'я Господнє, цар Ізраїлів! Ісус же, знайшовши осля, сів на нього, як написано: Не бійся, дочко Сіонська, ось цар твій іде верхи, сидячи на молодім ослі. Цього ж спершу не зрозуміли Його ученики, але, коли Ісус прославився, тоді згадали, що це було писано про Нього і що це вчинили Йому. Свідчив же народ, що був передше з Ним, коли Він Лазаря викликав з гробу і воскресив Його з мертвих. Того ради і зустрів Його народ, бо чули, що Він вчинив це чудо."

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Saint John:
Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him. Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. Then Judas the Iscariot, one (of) his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said, "Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days' wages and given to the poor?" He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and held the money bag and used to steal the contributions. So Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me." (The) large crowd of the Jews found out that he was there and came, not only because of Jesus, but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. And the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus too, because many of the Jews were turning away and believing in Jesus because of him. On the next day, when the great crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took palm branches and went out to meet him, and cried out: "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, (even) the king of Israel." Jesus found an ass and sat upon it, as is written: "Fear no more, O daughter Zion; see, your king comes, seated upon an ass's colt." His disciples did not understand this at first, but when Jesus had been glorified they remembered that these things were written about him and that they had done this for him. So the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from death continued to testify. This was (also) why the crowd went to meet him, because they heard that he had done this sign.
