"Сину Тимотею, Ти ж будь тверезим у всьому, терпи напасті, виконуй працю євангелиста, виконуй твою службу. Бо мене вже приносять у жертву, і час мого відходу настав. Я боровся доброю борнею, біг скінчив, віру зберіг. Тепер же приготований мені вінок справедли-вости, що його дасть мені того дня Господь, справедливий Суддя; та не лише мені, але й всім тим, що з любов'ю чекали на Його появу."

Lesson from the Second Epistle of Saint Paul to Timothy – c. 4, v. 5–8 Timothy, my child, be always vigilant, endure suffering, and fulfill your ministry. As for me, I feel that my life–blood is poured out in sacrifice. Undoubtedly, the time of my departure is impending. I have contended in the sacred contest, I have run my race, I have fulfilled my mission. Now I look forward to the crown of righteousness, which is waiting for me. The Lord, as a righteous judge, will grant it to me on that Day. Of course, he will grant it, not only to me, but also to all those, who have longed for his manifestation.

"Зачало Євангелії Ісуса Христа, Сина Божого. Як є написано в пророків: Ось я посилаю ангела мого перед лицем твоїм, що приготує путь твою перед тобою. Голос вопіющого в пустині: Приготуйте путь Господню, праві творіть стежки Його. Був Іван, що хрестив у пустині і проповідував хрещення покаяння на відпущення гріхів. І виходила до нього вся Юдейська країна, і єрусалимляни, і хрестилися всі від нього в Йордані річці, сповідаючи гріхи свої. А був Іван одягнений у верблюжу волосінницю, і пояс ремінний на бедрах його; і їв акріди і мед дикий. І проповідував, кажучи: Слідом за мною йде сильніший від мене, якому я недостойний, нахилившись, розв'язати ремінь обуви Його. Я ото хрестив вас водою, а той хрестить вас Духом Святим."

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Saint Mark: The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ (the Son of God). As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: "Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way. A voice of one crying out in the desert: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.'" John (the) Baptist appeared in the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. People of the whole Judean countryside and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins. John was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He fed on locusts and wild honey. And this is what he proclaimed: "One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the holy Spirit." (Mar. 1, 1-8)

Обрізання (Найменування) Господнє Для нас, християн, які відзначаємо цикл свят за старим календарним стилем новий рік настає не 1 січня, а 14 січня. Саме у цей день святкуємо празники Обрізання Господнього і св. Василія Великого. Після Собору в Єрусалимі 50 року по Христі обрізання не є необхідною практикою. Християни, прислухаючись до слів св. апостола Павла, завжди наголошували на духовному вимірі обрізання, т. зв. обрізанні серця, яке втілюється у зрості в чеснотах і прямуванні до святості. Цього ми повинні взаємно один одному бажати у Новому році. Святий Василій Великий Святий Василій Великий народився 329 року в багатодітній християнській сім'ї в місті Кесарії Каппадокійській у Малій Азії. Під впливом старшої сестри Макрини він відрікся блискучої кар'єри і розпочав суворе монаше життя. Згодом він уклав дві збірки ""55 Коротших правил"" і ""313 Ширших правил"", які до сьогодні є джерелом правил чернечого життя усього християнського Сходу. Василій заснував декілька монастирів, поблизу яких завжди знаходили притулок тисячі убогих і знедолених. Згодом це діло милосердя назвали ""Василіядою"". Ставши архиєпископом Каппадокії, Василій рішуче боровся проти різних єресей і залишив нам у спадщину чимало догматичних і аскетичних творів, гомілій та листів. Василій Великий написав св. Літургію, яку до сьогодні відправляють 10 разів на рік. Помер Василій після важкої недуги смертю праведника 379 року.

St. Basil the Great wrote a Holy Liturgy, which we celebrate 10 times a year. Basil died after a serious illness in the year 379.
