Послання ап. Павла до Ефесян 4, 7-13

"Браття, кожному з нас дана благодать згідно з даром Христа. Тому сказано: Піднявшись на висоту, Він полон полонив і дав дари людям. А що означає піднявшись, як не те, що [раніше] Він зійшов до найнижчих місць землі? Хто зійшов, Той і піднявся вище від небес, щоб наповнити все. Він і поставив одних апостолами, інших пророками, ще інших благовісниками, а тих — пастирями та вчителями, щоб приготувати святих для справи служіння, для збудування Христового тіла, аж поки всі досягнемо єдності віри й пізнання Божого Сина, досконалого змужніння, міри зрілості повноти Христа.

" Lesson from the Epistle of Saint Paul to the Ephesians – c. 4, v. 7–12 Brethren, grace was given to each one of us according to the generous measure of Christ. Therefore, the Scripture says: “He ascended into heaven, he led a host of captives, he gave gifts to mankind.” Now, if he ascended into heaven, that means that he had previously descended into the lower regions of the earth. For Christ first descended, then ascended above all the heavens, and filled the entire universe. He gave us some men as Apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors, some as teachers. It is their duty to train the saints, to minister to their needs, to build up the Church of Christ, and to enable us to achieve the unity of the faith and knowledge of the Son of God. So, we shall reach full growth, the maturity and the perfection of Christ.

Євангеліє від Матея 4, 12-17 "В той час Ісус, почувши, що Івана ув'язнено, вернувся в Галилею і, покинувши Назарет, пішов і оселився у Капернаумі, що при морі, на границях Завулона та Нафталі, щоб збулося те, що сказав був пророк Ісая: О земле Завулона та Нафталі, приморський шляху, країно за Йорданом, поганська Галилеє! Народ, який сидів у темноті, побачив велике світло; тим, що сиділи в країні й тіні смерти, зійшло світло. З того часу Ісус почав проповідувати й говорити: Покайтеся, бо приблизилось Царство Небесне."

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Saint Matthew: At that time Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. He left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali, that what had been said through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled: "Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death light has arisen." From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." (Mt. 4, 12-17)

Богоявлення Господнє У перші століття християнства Різдво Христове і Богоявлення відзначалося в той самий день - 6 січня (19 січня за старим стилем). Але вже з IV ст. ці два праздники розділено. Тематику народження Ісуса Христа перенесено на 25 грудня (7 січня за старим стилем), а святкування Богоявлення, тобто об'явлення Бога народженого в людському тілі всьому світові, залишилося того самого дня. У Західній Церкві Бога об'являють три царі, тому і цей празник називається Трьох Царів. У Східній Церкві наголошується на хрещенні Ісуса Христа в ріці Йордані, де з тої нагоди об'явилась Пресвята Трійця: було чути голос Бога Отця, видно Бога Сина, Який хреститься, і Духа Святого, Який ширяв над Ним у вигляді голуба. Основна тема празника Богоявлення – це просвічення. ""Світло недоступне зійшло сьогодні на всю Вселенну, з'явилось їй і нас опромінило"" – зміст кондака цього празника. А тропар закінчується словами: ""Господи, що з'явився і світ просвітив, слава Тобі"". У цей день під час святкового Богослуження посвячується вода, яку всі вірні несуть додому і яка нагадує їм про їхнє хрещення. Згодом священик посвячуватиме нею оселі своїх парафіян.

Epiphany of the Lord In the first centuries of Christianity, Christmas and Epiphany was celebrated on the same day - 6 January (January 19 old style). But in the IV century, these two holidays were split. The birth of Jesus Christ was changed to December 25 (7 January, old style), and the celebration of Epiphany, the revelation of God born in human flesh in this world was left on the same day. In the Western Church, God reveals three kings, which is why this day is called the Feast of the Three Kings. The Eastern Church emphasizes the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan, where on this occasion the Holy Trinity appeared: the voice of God the Father is heard, the Son of God is seen and baptized, and the Holy Spirit hovered over him as a dove. The main theme of the Feast of Epiphany - is enlightenment. "Light appeared today for the whole world and surrounded us" - kontakion meaning of this feast. A Troparion ends with the words: "Lord, who appeared and enlightened the world, glory to you." On this day, during the festive Divine Service, water is blessed for all the faithful to take home and that reminds them of their baptism. Later, the priest would bless the homes of the parishioners.
